Frequently Asked Questions
What do the letters after your name mean?
MA- means I have a master of arts degree in counseling.
NCC® - National Certified Counselor. This is a certification through NBCC (the National Board of Certified Counselors). This certification means my education and field experiences met standards of CACREP (Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs), and I passed the National Counselor Exam.
What is a pre-licensed professional counselor?
I am working towards my license as a licensed professional counselor, which means I am practicing under a supervisor who I keep up to date on my work
What insurances do you take?
I currently do not bill any insurance companies directly. Some insurance companies will allow you to submit a “superbill” to be reimbursed for services you paid for out of pocket, but as a pre-licensed professional I do not have the capability to do that at this time.
What are your session fees?
My sessions are $95 for a 50-minute session. It is considered best practice to allow 90-minute sessions for EMDR work, which would be $130. This is something we would talk about ahead of time and you would make the final decision on whether to do 90-minute sessions or not. My practice management system will ask for a debit/credit card, but I also accept cash or check payment at the time of service if you would prefer not to use a card.
Do you have evening appointments available?
I currently have one early evening slot available. Those time slots fill up quickly!
Do you see clients online?
Yes, I am seeing clients both in-person and online. I usually see my online clients on Thursdays. The online modality is not appropriate for all clients, so we would need to talk about whether it’s the best fit for you. At the very least, you need to be in the state of PA, and have a private, safe place with a good internet connection.
Carlisle is a small town, and the military and Christian communities are even smaller. What happens if we run into each other outside of our sessions?
We will talk about this in our first session, or even in the phone consultation. As I get to know you, we can get a feel for whether our lives are likely to intersect somewhere predictable, and we can plan together how we will handle it. If it occurs in an unpredictable way, I will respect your privacy. I will not acknowledge that I know you unless you say “hi” first. I will keep any conversation to small talk so I do not reveal that you are my client.
